At the East County Career Center we have several ongoing workshops 
and classes, which are listed below. They are sponsored by 
Grossmont Adult School, and are free.

Business Software Lab 
Instructor assisted self-paced, independent learning in a lab setting. Primary focus is Microsoft Office 2007. Other applications may be available. Certificate programs are currently available for beginning level Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Lab is open entry/open exit. Enrollment does not guarantee a seat. Seats are filled first come/first served. 
Career Explorations Workshop
This workshop will help you determine your career interest areas utilizing several different assessments and online research time to allow you investigate a number of career ideas. You will also visit websites to gather labor market information and utilize tools to aid in locating employers. The Career Exploration workshop is offered in a two-day format, or a four-evening format. Please check the calendar for more information. Interview Preparation This two-day workshop will provide detailed information on questions to use when researching companies, interview strategies and mistakes to avoid before, during and after interviews. The class will also provide opportunities to informally practice answering questions. This is a two-day workshop and the first day will be valuable preparation for day two. 
Job Search Foundations
This one day, three-hour workshop will help prepare you for seeking employment. Learn about the effects of job loss that can delay transition back into the workforce, common fears and important things to remember as you move forward. Learn how to take inventory of your qualifications and summarize your skills, knowledge and traits to help in networking and interviewing. 
Resume Writing
This one day, three-hour workshop will cover mistakes to avoid and valuable formatting guidelines. Students will view sample résumés and participate in group critiquing of samples. Class also includes a brief discussion of cover letters, file type issues along with emailing and uploading of résumés. There will be an opportunity provided to schedule a future critique after completing the class. Appointments will be dependent on each week’s class schedule. 
Social Media for the Job Seeker
This class is designed to give you an overview of a variety of social media tools, and how they can help you in your job search. Come learn how to use social media such as: Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook more effectively in your quest.

Did you know that it is an EDD requirement to be registered in CalJOBS, and that you have your resume in the system using 'Resume Builder'? You can register and enter a resume anywhere you have an Internet connection - 24 hours a day.
  • Registering and using Resume Builder is free, and it will help you find job openings. You can enter up to 10 resumes, so you can tailor them for specific jobs that you are applying for. 
  • If you have an attached resume in CalJOBS, you can copy to the CalJOBS template in seconds by choosing the radio button COPY. We also have a handout with step by step instructions at the Career Center on how to use Resume Builder.
  • We have computers you can use to access CalJOBS and check your email for unemployment updates.
  • We also have phones where you can call to speak to an unemployment representative. 
  • There are no EDD staff members at the East County Career Center. 
Adult Programs

Here at the America's Job Center - East Region, we have several options that can help you get trained and back into the workforce. After you have attended one of the 'Introduction to Services' sessions and have become a member you can access our services.
Options include, but are not limited to the following three training programs: On-The-Job Training (OJT), Individual Training Accounts (ITA), or Customized Training. Click here for more information on these options.
Research Lab
You will be able to use our research lab to work on your resume, and conduct job search activities. This includes using our fax and copying services. Assistance is provided in the lab as necessary.
Employment Advisors
Members have access to our Employment Advisors, who will assist you with your job search. They can provide you with job leads, and inform you of training opportunities.Check our calendar for the next 'Introduction to Services', and come take advantage of what the Career Center has to offer!

Here at the America’s Job Center - East Region. We have many Veteran's services.

EDD Vet Rep - Are located at the South Metro Career Center 4389 Imperial Ave, San Diego 92113. They are seen by appointment only. They can be reached at (619)266-4200 Mon. - Fri. 8am - 5pm. In order to see a Vet rep, you must attend our Introduction to Center Services or at South Metro Center Introduction. The schedule for our Intro can be viewed on our calendar. Upon completion of the Introduction, those meeting EDD criteria may be referred to see the Vet Rep at South Metro Career Center.

Department of Rehabilitation- A representative from Department of Rehabilitation is here every Wednesday from 8am - 12pm (Noon). Anyone with any type of disability can come in without an appointment to get assistance for employments and other services. Did you know as a registered Veteran in CalJOBS you can see job orders the first 24 hours before the general public? EDD places a 24 hold on job orders, so that means you will learn about available jobs before the rest of the job seeking public.
