The mission of the East County Career Center is to serve the community by providing individuals the guidance and resources necessary to achieve employment success and to deliver quality workforce services to employers. The East County Career Center is part of the America's Job Center Network as well as the Grossmont Union High School District, under the direction of the Adult Education Department. It is the first career center created in San Diego county to provide a one-stop shop environment for career planning and job search assistance.

The Center has been in the City of El Cajon since 1977 and has formed long-standing partnerships with many agencies throughout the county including the California Employment Development Department, San Diego Workforce Partnership, Inc., Grossmont College, Cuyamaca College, California Department of Rehabilitation, National Indian Council on Aging (NICOA), Health and Human Services Agency, Job Corps, and numerous local employers. Public transportation, including bus service and close proximity to freeways, allows easy access to the Career Center.

The Center offers a full array of job search and career development programs for everyone throughout the county regardless of ethnicity, income, or employment status. The Center offers a variety of workshops including Career Explorations and relevant workplace skills.

Personalized services are available for local employers desiring to hire candidates from the Career Center. Prospective employers are give qualified, pre-screened, applicants for them to interview and potentially hire. Employers who select a candidate from the Career Center pool may be eligible for our wage reimbursement programs. Additionally, we can offer our facility for employers to conduct recruitment events, screening and interviewing. All employer guided events are promoted through the Career Center network, and our staff will assist with the event.

The Center prides itself on its friendly, helpful, professional staff who provide immediate client assistance through a centralized intake system. The staff has up-to-date knowledge of current trends, resources and community referrals contributing to all aspects of placement, vocational counseling and technology . Workshop instructors are well-trained and experienced teachers dedicated to the continuous improvement of curriculum to better meet the needs of the students. Workshops are practical, informative and interactive so as to involve participants in an interesting and enjoyable learning environment. Evening workshops are periodically available.
