If you are interested in a career in education this program is right for you. The Education Pathway is designed prepare students to persue careers in child care and entry level positions in school districts across the San Diego region.  This pathway leads to direct hire opportunities and a pathway to Community College and University.  It is designed for students who want to enter the field of education right away or those who want to attain a bachelor’s degree or more!
 
 
The Education Pathway prepares students for professional or support positions, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve.  The pathway combines study human development, positive guidance and counseling techniques, age and grade appropriate learning strategies, and instructional design needed for community college transfer and entrance into careers in child development and education.  
 
Careers include but are not limited to the following: Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Elementary School, Special Education (preschool & elementary), Child, Family & School Social Workers, Child Care Workers, Teacher Assistants, Education Administrators, Early Interventionists, School Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Music Therapists, College Instructors, Instructional Coordinators, and Family Child Care Owners.  Some of these career options require more than two-years of college study. 

Paraeducator / Instructional Assistant Course - Register Today to start your career in education!

Prepare to apply for a paraprofessional educator position with the Grossmont and Cajon Valley Union School Districts.  Alternatively known as a para educator, para, instructional/educational assistant, or teacher’s aide; support teachers and students in elementary, middle school, and secondary school classrooms.
 
Train to work as a Paraeducator or Instructional Assistant in local school districts.  Understand the roles and responsibilities required to assist classroom instructors. Certificate awarded after class completion. Exam is on the last day. Class is taught in English. (9th grade math and reading proficiency required.)  Direct hire opportunities with Grossmont and Cajon Valley school districts.

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT EXAM - Register Today!

This exam is a requirement for GUHSD and CVUSD employment. Exceptions to this test are: possession of a current California Teaching Credential; an AA degree or higher; at least 48 units or passing the CBEST - California Basic Education Skills Test. Career Training Orientations

During the CTE Orientation, students receive general information about persuing a one of Grossmont Adult Education's career pathways.  You will learn how to access educational services and supports through Grossmont Adult Education.  Click here to sign up for a career training orientation!!!

 

Steps

Step 1 - Attend a CTE orientation - Required
Click here to register for an upcoming orientation.  Orientations occur two times a month and are offered in person.  Attending an orientation is required to register for all CTE programs.  
 
Step 2 - Register for CTE Program - only open to students who have attended a CTE Orientation
Registration for programs will open online 6-weeks prior to the start of each course.  Registration is a first come first serve process.
 
Step 3 - Attend the First Day of Class - Required
The first day of class will be scheduled a few weeks earlier than the program start. Attendance is mandatory for registered and waitlisted students. All program details and requirements will be reviewed during the first class day.
